No-Limit Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn anything he could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the adverse feedback from other people kill his goal of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

He began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed a number of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is quite humble about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
