Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to make it to the final poker table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best gamblers anywhere in the world. While gambling on internet poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. He often competes in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen more often than not buys in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all-in. I accept that Gus is a great poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is penniless, he has little or no reason to sit at the game with the min buy in.
Playing for the min takes a majority of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the total dollar value. I believe television can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The greatest poker players in the world may be guys you have will not have heard of. Gus can be seen playing net poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in big stakes omaha/8 and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his skills in cash games?
