Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to achieve final table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a large pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best enthusiasts in the world. While wagering on online poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. He often competes in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of $40, 000. Gus generally buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I know Hansen is an excellent poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless he is penniless, he has little or no reason to settle at the table with the min buy-in.
Buying in for the min takes most of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Gus is presumed to be one of the best poker players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amt.. I believe tv can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The best poker players anywhere in the world may be players you have will not have heard of. Gus can be seen gambling on net poker on Full Tilt. He commonly participates in high stakes omaha high and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his talents in money rounds?
