Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only participant to make it to the last table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest bettors in the world. While playing web poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. Gus frequently participates in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus usually buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I know Hansen is an excellent poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is broke, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy-in.
Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be one of the greatest poker players in the world but he cannot buy in for the full amt.. I think television can skew our perception of the real world at times. The greatest players anywhere in the world might be guys you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be found participating in web poker on Full Tilt. He usually plays in high stakes Omaha and Holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player.
