Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only player to make it to the closing poker table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a big pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest bettors around the world. While betting on net poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. Gus frequently competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus usually buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I know Hansen is an amazing poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is broke, he has little or no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy in.
Playing for the min takes almost all of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is supposed to be 1 of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full dollar value. I think television can alter our view of the real world sometimes. The best players anywhere in the world might just be guys you have never heard of. Gus can be seen betting on internet poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in high stakes omaha high and hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his abilities in money games?
