Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover everything he possibly could about the game. Phil would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the detrimental comments from others kill his goal of being one of the best poker players in the world.

Phil began competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing love for poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is very humble about his achievements. He admits to making errors every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a regular basis.
