Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandfather taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental comments from other people kill his ambition of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an undying love for poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his achievements. Phil admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Although Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
