Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by many of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from other people kill his goal of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.
He started playing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning experience and winning was not a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated many of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and an eternal love for poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
