Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor in the world by most of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the negative feedback from other people destroy his dream of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.
He began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an undying passion for the game of poker. He says that he’s learning every single day and is very abashed about his success.
