Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to achieve last poker table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus raked in a huge pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest gamblers anywhere in the world. While betting on web poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. He often competes in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of $40, 000. Hansen usually buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I believe Hansen is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to sit at the table with the minimum buy-in.
Playing for the min takes most of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is assumed to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the total amount. I think television can alter our perception of the real world at times. The best poker players anywhere in the world may be players you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be found participating in internet poker on Full Tilt. He commonly competes in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his abilities in cash games?
