Stu is thought to be by many to the finest NL Hold’em Poker player ever.
The three time World Poker Champion was born in New York in 1953 and started playing poker before becomming a teenager.
The young gambler began playing gin and at the age of 10 had won his initial gin rummy tournament, while on holiday with his parents. By the age of fourteen the little poker genius had become a pro and stopped going to school.
In ‘54 Stu Ungar entered the record books by winning 10 grand in a gin tournament without dropping a single hand, a record which still appears in New York today.
The fast talking wiz kid has been likened, in poker terms, to sporting greats such as Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods. Stu had a genuine talent for playing poker except in spite of his successes in Hold em poker, he favored wagering gin.
Stu once said that there might a number of day be a much better NL Hold’em gambler than him except he could not see how anyone could ever be a better gin gambler.
In 1980 Stu Ungar was put on the world map as one of the very best Holdem Poker gamblers in the world when he was crowned World Poker Champ for the first time. Astonishingly it was the very first time he had played in the tournament.
The right after year he put aside any suggestions that it had been a fluke, by successfully protecting his crown. And in ‘97 Stu set the record by succeeding his 3rd World poker championship.
Except this poker master also battled with substance abuse and a year right after succeeding his 3rd title Stu died in his hotel room. According to medical professionals, he had died from a cardiac event which was caused by his lifestyle.
Stu Ungar had started out with nothing except his ability and talent for the game which made this poker good a millionaire quite a few times over.
